How many times have you heard those words? I’d like to introduce to you so-and-so. I say them on a weekly, if not daily, basis. I introduce colleagues who I believe would benefit from knowing each other. On occasion, I see a good romantic fit and make an entirely different type of introduction, but that’s content for an entirely different type of post. Usually when I connect people, there is not a specific outcome in mind. Yes, sometimes I know that someone needs a graphic artist and I introduce them to Katie Austin. Other times I they might be looking for a PR pro and I point them in the direction of Deirdre Breakenridge. However, most of the time, I don’t try and predict an outcome.
Several times in the past few months, I have facilitated meetings where one party says “what is she going to do for me,?” “why would he want to meet me,?” or “I don’t know how I can help her.” My response is usually the same, “just meet them and see.”
When I am introduced to people I consider it an honor. While there may not be an exact match today, you never know when you will have the chance to connect other people for the perfect fit. I today’s world, knowledge is important, but who you know and who knows you can take you to the next level – entirely.
So the next time someone wants to introduce you to someone, say yes. You never know who will end up being your future client/employer/referral source/friend.
I welcome introductions an am happy to facilitate any in my network. All you have to do is ask. And sometimes, you don’t even need to do that.
