If You Don’t Have a Webcam, Get One!

March 15, 2011

I made this video to show how easy it is to use a webcam. This is my first video post so please be kind in the comments.

I use webcam just about everyday to Skype. Skype is a free tool that allows for video chat. It also allows you to make calls to landlines or cell phones for pennies a call.  It is amazing how communicating with people can change, simply by being able to look them in the eye while talking to them. Unlike the expensive video phones that were once imagined to be the wave of the future, any computer with a webcam (built-in or external) and a internet connection can be used for Skype.

Webcams aren’t just useful for conversations. They can be used for webinars, for recording educational clips and for creating marketing messages.   I have a built-in cam on my Mac, but use an external Logitech camera on my PC. They are both high quality and the external camera was less than $100 (you can get them for even less than that).

There are a lot of programs that can assist you with editing. Apple’s iMovie comes with Macs, and WebcamMax is one of the many program available for PC.

Here are some more thoughts on using a webcam.

How are you using your webcam? Are you shy? What creative things have you done with it to support your business?
