In a moment of pure ADD, I swallowed my fortune. Yes, that’s right. The kind in a Chinese fortune cookie. I was getting ready for a presentation, emailing and instant messaging all at the same time. I popped the cookie into my mouth without thinking. When I realized what I had done I had no choice but to swallow it. I give you permission to laugh at me now, I certainly did.
Once I composed myself from a fit of giggles, I wondered what was my fortune said. I started to obsess about it. What if it contained the answer to my destiny? What if it listed the winning lottery numbers? I really wanted to know.
The next few days brought me incredible luck. I found people were more attracted to me and wanted to connect with me. I uncovered a number of solid opportunities. I even lost a few pounds without really trying.
I thought to myself, it must have been the fortune cookie. What else could it be?
- I’m sure that it had nothing to do with the positive attitude that I am focused on having.
- It’s not because I am looking at all challenges I encounter, trying to find opportunities.
- It’s not because I have asked friends for several introductions to people who I have wanted to meet or I have simply reached out to them myself and said hello.
- Helping a friend find some donations for a local charity couldn’t be a factor.
- Volunteering to be a mentor to two ambitious and impressive students definitely wouldn’t impact my luck.
- Giving a bigger than normal tip to the pizza delivery guy has nothing to do with my fortune.
- And it is certainly not because I try to smile more and be nicer to strangers.
So I came to the conclusion: all the luck in my life must be from the magical fortune cookie that I swallowed. Don’t you agree?
So whatever you do, don’t try any of things in the list above, it’s so much easier to just eat a cookie. Isn’t success that simple?
